How did the Australian AC1 Tank end up with Hotchkiss style Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension system?

I may be wrong but I think the Sentinels suspension must of came from either, copying captured Vichy French R35 Tank suspension, French Tank designer R Perrier and others that escaped after the The Fall Of France. Using the American M3 Lee Tank's hull design makes me wonder why they didn't use the standard M3 and M4 Medium standard Vertical Volute Spring Suspension. What's strange is it's clearly a Hotchkiss style suspension but utilizing American volute springs. I believe they made a kind of either torsion bar or Christie style suspension. Cheers John.
