Legal to film yourself having without consent/knowledge of other party?

I was curious if its legal to film yourself having , on your own property, without the other party knowing. I understand privacy laws stop the distribution of tapes (and see no problem with those laws) but how about filming yourself for the purpose of protecting oneself from any allegations?
